Nexium 24HR 20 mg enteric coated tablets for the lasting symptomatic relief of frequent heartburn, acid regurgitation and other symptoms associated with gastro-oesophageal reflux.
Always take this medicine exactly as described in the Consumer Medicine Information leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist have told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The recommended dose is one tablet a day. - Do not take more than this recommended dose of one tablet (20 mg) a day, even if you don't feel an improvement immediately. - You may need to take Nexium 24HR for a few days before experiencing the full effect. - Nexium 24HR should be taken for at least 7 days and up to 14 days. - Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you do not feel better while taking Nexium 24HR. If symptoms persist or recur within 2 weeks of completing the course, consult your doctor. Further examination may be required.
Always read the label, use only as directed. Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you notice any of the following and they worry you: nausea or vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, headache, wind, stomach pain, skin rash, itchy skin, dizziness or dry mouth. These side effects are usually mild. Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you are taking any other medicines, including any that you buy without a prescription from your pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop. Some medicines may interfere with Nexium 24HR. Do not take Nexium 24HR if you are pregnant unless your doctor says so. Ask your doctor about the risks and benefits involved. It is not known if it is safe for you to take Nexium 24HR while you are pregnant. It may affect your baby. Do not take Nexium 24HR if you are breastfeeding. Ask your doctor for more information. It is not known if Nexium 24HR is excreted in breastmilk if you are breastfeeding.

Nexium 24HR may take up to 7 days to start to work while you are experiencing frequent heartburn, acid regurgitation and other symptoms associated with gastro-oesophageal reflux (faecalution) or other symptoms of ulcers (stinging) of the stomach lining. It should only be taken on an empty stomach for a few days before experiencing the full effect of the meal.
Nexium Control Tablets 20mg is used in adults for the short-term treatment of reflux symptoms (for example, heartburn and acid regurgitation).
Reflux is the backflow of acid from the stomach into the gullet (“foodpipe”) which may become inflamed and painful. This may cause you symptoms such as a painful sensation in the chest rising up to your throat (heartburn) and a sour taste in the mouth (acid regurgitation).
Nexium Control is not meant to bring immediate relief. You may need to take the tablets for 2-3 days in a row before you feel better. You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 14 days.

That's because the company has already begun to produce a generic version of the drug, AstraZeneca said. It's the second patent loss in six years.
Glaxo's announcement comes as the U. S. patent on AstraZeneca's blockbuster heartburn drug Nexium has expired. AstraZeneca's U. patent on Nexium, which was initially granted in 2006, was later extended to cover Nexium in 2007. In that year, the patent expired, meaning the patent for Nexium will no longer be available on the U. market.
Glaxo said the delay in the patent was due to "an increasing number of generic competitors." It said the launch of generic versions of AstraZeneca's blockbuster heartburn drug Nexium will be a "potally new development" in the first quarter of this year. The generic version of the drug's blockbuster heartburn drug will become available in the U. in 2007.
"This is a very interesting development," said Dr. Sidney Wolfe, director of Public Citizen's health research group. "It gives us an opportunity to take the next step toward an FDA approval and then move forward with a generic, generic version."
AstraZeneca said it will take the delay well into 2007 and will begin to develop the drug in 2007.
AstraZeneca said it will continue to market its Nexium drug until the U. patent on it expires.
